MISLE: The Marine Information for Safety and Law Enforcement (MISLE) is a database system managed and used by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG). MISLE is used to store data on marine accidents, pollution incidents, search and rescue cases, law enforcement activities, and vessel inspections/examinations.  The public may access portions of the data contained on the MISLE system through the Port State Information eXchange (PSIX). Currently, it contains information on over 650,000 U.S. and foreign flagged vessel including nearly 80,000 Commercial Fishing Vessels. The information found in PSIX represents a weekly snapshot of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) data on U.S. flag vessels, foreign vessels operating in U.S. waters, and Coast Guard contacts with those vessels. Information on unclosed cases, investigations, or cases pending further action is considered privileged information and is precluded from the PSIX system.

PDA: The Coast Guard has developed job aid software for MISLE and installed it on a Windows based Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). This software is called MISLE Mobile.  MISLE Mobile alleviates the need for paper checklists and paper job aids and provides Coast Guard Dockside Examiners and Boarding Officers the ability to…

  • Search for vessel and party info while in the field
  • Access 3 years of vessel history
  • Generate a custom exam checklist based on user input
  • Provide individual item sub-checklists
  • Generate deficiency statements for entry to MISLE
  • Generate the narrative for entry to MISLE
  • Access regulations cites
  • Print out a CG-5587 with worklist items if any
  • Export information captured during the exam to MISLE
  • Reduce majority of work required to enter info into MISLE
